A food warmer is an elegant and practical way to keep food warm at the table, the better to enjoy your guests and the occasion itself. Towle makes a particularly lovely version of this handy apparatus. The silver-plated warmer has three legs that support an open-bottomed basin with porringer handles, a lid, and a platform beneath which a tea candle sits inside a glass holder. A 2-quart, dishwasher-safe Pyrex glass dish fits inside the basin (the dish can come straight out of the oven, though it's not safe to heat it on top of the range or under the broiler), and the trusty little candle keeps up the heat. The setup is well designed: the candle has enough room to "breathe" but is not vulnerable to every little draft that passes.
